May Group Stitch
I’m bringing the Group Stitch back for May! And this time with some advance warning so hopefully everyone can get it on their calendar. Things are still pretty hectic, but I believe towards the end of May I will be free again to do the things I love, like Group Stitch. And maybe the weather will be nice?
The May Group Stitch will be held on Pier 1 of the Brooklyn Bridge Park. You should bring a blanket and your latest project. We’ll meet on the “great lawn” so to speak. That’s behind the kids playground and North of the big steps.
When: Saturday, May 21st at 3:00pm
Where: “Great Lawn” of the new Pier 1 @ Brooklyn Bridge Park
Getting There: The nearest subway stations are the High Street A/C and Clark Street 2/3. But its not too far of a walk from the York Street F. View on a map.
Alternate Rain Location:Floyd’s on Atlantic Avenue
Note: The park does not allow lawn chairs or dogs on the lawn.

Flatbush Branch of The Woman’s Needlework Guild
I know I’ve been slacking lately. I haven’t even posted to let you know that I would be slacking, even though I knew I would be. I think I need to take a hiatus from the group stitch for a couple of months. I have too many commitments and for my own sanity I need to limit my activities until those major commitments are over. I definitely can’t wait to get together again once the weather clears and we can go to the park to stitch.
In the meantime check out this awesome photo of the Flatbush Branch of the Woman’s Needlework Guild from 1916 posted by the Brooklyn Historical Society.

Flouncy Bag for Anna

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at sewing for a while now. My mom has lent me her sewing machine so that I can see how I like it. My sister also gave me this great book for Christmas, One-Yard Wonders. It has over a hundred projects that each require one yard or less of fabric.

For my first project I wanted to make my niece Anna a cute bag with some embroidery on it. The bag I picked ended up being quite a challenge for a beginner like me, but in the end I managed to finish it and I think it came out really nice.
Inside the bag, there are ribbon loops for keeping smaller items organized.

Embroiderers’ Guild of America
I’ve been stitching for just over a year now and I thought the time had come to join The Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA).
I’m hoping it will create opportunities to meet new people and learn new techniques. I joined as a member at large because there is no active local chapter in my area. One of the benefits of membership is the quarterly magazine, Needle Arts.

Owl Tote

When I saw this owl pattern on Stitchy Britches I just knew I had to stitch it up. So I stitched it onto a tote bag before the holidays thinking I might gift it to someone. But I couldn’t figure out who to gift it to, or maybe I just liked it too much to give it away. Anyway, I still have it and I wanted to show it off to you.

Happy Birthday Brooklyn Embroidery!
My blog turned 1 year old this week! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year since I started embroidery and this blog. I’ve made lots of fun projects and had lots of fun group stitches in the past year. Here’s a look back at the projects…

Beste Lam
One of my sister’s favorite foods is lamb, so I thought it’d be cute to embroider the butcher cuts onto a tea towel. I did all of the lettering free-hand, so it’s not perfect, but I think it came out cute.

“Beste Lam” is Dutch for “Best Lamb”. The reason for that is a long story. Here’s a picture of my sister with her Beste Lam tea towel on Christmas.
