October Group Stitch Reminder

Sorry I’ve been so quiet lately. I’m busing working away on Christmas gifts so I can’t exactly post my progress to the blog or I’d ruin the surprise. But the group stitch is still scheduled for Sunday, so if you want to see what I’m working on, or want to make some progress on your own project, come on down to Floyd’s on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn.

As always, all skill levels are welcome. All you need to bring is yourself and your latest project.

When: Sunday, October 24th 3pm to 6pm
Where: Floyd 131 Atlantic Avenue b/w Henry and Clinton map it
Nearest Subway: 4,5,2,3 at Borough Hall

Introduction to Machine Sewing @ The City Quilter

Tonight concluded my Introduction to Machine Sewing Class @ The City Quilter. Last week we learned the basics and this week we put our skills to the test in sewing a basic 16″ x 16″ pillow cover.

I’m extremely pleased with my fabric selection. It matches perfectly and is also quite beautiful on its own.

Our instructor handled the fabric cutting, but we did the ironing, pinning, and of course sewing, ourselves. This was the perfect starter project. Nothing too fancy. As you can see below, the cover has an envelope opening for inserting the pillow.

The starting measurements of the fabric were one 16 1/2″ square piece (front) and two 16 1/2″ x 12 1/2″ rectangle pieces (back). The 12 1/2″ measurement gives plenty of room for seams and overlapping of the envelope.

September Group Stitch – Rain Location

So much for beautiful September weather! We’ll be meeting at our “rain” location… Floyd’s on Atlantic Avenue. They’ve got comfy couches and big windows where we can watch the rain. Same time, 3pm to 6pm-ish today (Sunday, September 12th.)

September Group Stitch

The weather in September is always perfect so I think it’s a good time to return to the Brooklyn Bridge Park. We’ll meet on the “great lawn” so to speak. That’s behind the kids playground and North of the big steps. You should bring a blanket and your latest project.

When: Sunday, September 12th at 3:00pm
Where: “Great Lawn” of the new Pier 1 @ Brooklyn Bridge Park
Getting There: The nearest subway stations are the High Street A/C and Clark Street 2/3. But its not too far of a walk from the York Street F. View on a map.

Note: The park does not allow lawn chairs or dogs on the lawn.

August Group Stitch

In an effort to entice some new faces to join us this month, the August Group Stitch will be held in Park Slope. The location will be The Gate at 321 5th Avenue at 3rd Street. (If it turns out The Gate is too crowded that day to get a table for all of us, check across the street at the JJ Byrne Park.)

As always, all skill levels are welcome. All you need to bring is yourself and your latest project.

When: Sunday, August 29th 3pm to 6pm

July Group Stitch

Just a friendly reminder that the July Group Stitch is this Sunday from 3pm to 6pm in Red Hook. For July Rebecca has graciously offered to host us at Quist Industries in Red Hook. I’m totally looking forward to sitting out on the pier, feeling the breeze from the water and gazing out at the Verrazano Bridge while I stitch.

As always, all skill levels are welcome. All you need to bring is yourself and your latest project.

If you need some extra incentive to make the trip out to Red Hook, I have plenty of that for you…

  2. Stop by Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pie
  3. Visit the newly opened Red Hook Mercado an open air market with crafts and great food
  4. Visit the beautiful Brooklyn General Store for Yarn, Fabric, Dry Goods, Notions and More
