Embroidered K

We’re having dinner at a friend’s tonight and I wanted to bring them something special. I have a stash of flour sack towels that I ordered a while back from the American Chair Store. They are sturdy and a pleasure to stitch. I found a monogram pattern in Alicia Paulson’s Embroidery Companion: Classic Designs for Modern Living.
The pattern includes stitch instructions and thread colors. The letter is mostly done in padded satin stitch, but there is a little stem stitch and a few french knots as well. I don’t know if it’s because the pattern explicitly prescribed everything or why, but I think this is my most beautiful piece of work yet. I really love the padded satin stitch, it looks amazing and doesn’t show flaws nearly as much as a regular satin stitch would.
All in all this piece probably took me between 5 and 7 hours. I look forward to stitching many more of these monograms now that I know how amazing they look.
